Newspapers on microform

Search the collection of newspapers on microform. We have over 5,000 newspaper titles available on either microfilm or microfiche.

The collection includes daily, weekly, ethnic, student and Indigenous newspapers.

Search for newspapers

There are two ways to search for newspapers on microform:

1. Browse the newspaper chart
   • Use the “Regions” filter on the left to limit your search to a province or territory
   • Use the “Filter items” box to search by keyword, title or city
   • Click on a newspaper title to see the record in Aurora, where you can request reels for specific dates
2. Search Aurora with titles or keywords

Access the newspapers

For newspapers that are digitized

If you find a newspaper that interests you and that has been digitized, there may be a digital image. Access them directly from the Aurora record.

For newspapers that are not digitized

Most of our newspapers are not digitized. For newspapers that are not digitized, you will need to view them in person.

For a few select titles, microform reels are available for self-service access in our microform room. These titles are marked with “a *” in the chart above.

For all other titles, you will need to submit a request. To do so, you will need a user card number and an Aurora account. Delivery time is usually two to three business hours.

If you are unable to visit us in person, you may want to hire a researcher to consult the newspapers on your behalf.
