Abstract
Negro-African literature had always been an oral literature until the emergence of European genre fiction in the fifties. This was precipitated by the socio-historical conditions of the pre-independence era. Since then, several, formal and thematic studies were done on the Negro-African novel but very few essayists have seriously analyzed the phenomenon of the emergence of fiction as such. This thesis tries to fill some of this void. ....
