Abstract
<?Pub Inc> This thesis attempts to rethink the existing notions of public space and public transportation and how they relate to each other within a city, in particular, Calgary, Alberta. In a sprawling city such as Calgary, transportation hubs can be thought of as more than just a place for people catch a bus or train. LRT stations in Calgary do not meet their full potential as 'public' and have many opportunities to house spaces for people to meet, gather, linger, pause and socialize. These spaces need to. be engaging and interesting to those that use them. This thesis juxtaposes the fragility of the art of ceramics with the bullish nature of public transit. Elements of each program interfere with the other's spaces. This creates opportunities for new interactions and interferences between members of the public who may typically never cross paths.
