Abstract
"Contains profiles of youth and Elders from six Ojibwe communities: Beaverhouse First Nation, Brunswick House First Nation, Chapleau Ojibwe First Nation, Matachewan First Nation, Mattagami First Nation, and Wahgoshig First Nation. The Wabun Council represents six Ojibwe First Nations in the Timmins, Cochrane, and Chapleau area of northern Ontario. Each of the six communities is briefly described in terms of location (map), population, and economy. The Elders and youth were interviewed and each was asked to comment on their reserve's history, present conditions, and their hopes for the future. The Elders and youths were asked a series of three basic questions and their responses are transcribed here. Beaverhouse First Nation has no land base but a band office is located in Kirkland Lake. They are currently seeking land and band status from the federal government. Despite this, Clara Mathias, Joe Thivierge, and Teresa Laffrenier, who all reside in Kirkland Lake, recall their personal histories and life experiences.
