Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to determine the optimum performance of a reverse-flow cyclone with tangential inlet. The thesis involves experimental study on the effects of certain parameters of a cyclone overall performance. The influence of inlet velocity, cyclone inlet width, vortex finder length and vortex-finder diameter on the performance of a reverse-flow tangential cyclone were investigated. The experiments were carried out under ambient conditions at velocity range of 10 to 45 m/s with constant dust loading. In the experiments, twenty seven different geometric configurations were studied; the effect of geometric parameters and the compound effect of inlet velocity on the overall performance of the cyclone, due to the variation of the geometric parameters were investigated. The experimental results showed that the inlet width, vortex finder length, and vortex finder diameter affects the overall performance of the cyclone. The results also indicates that the effect of varying any of the geometric parameters is more significant at higher inlet velocities.
