Abstract
The objectives of this work: examine the potential benefit, in the estimation of reactivity ratios, from using multiple response copolymer models (such as triad fractions); identify improvements in reactivity ratio estimates using cumulative copolymer models over the full conversion range, for both triad fractions and composition data; and examine the use of terpolymer composition data in the error in variables model reactivity ratio estimation technique. In the first phase of this research, the potential improvement in reactivity ratio estimation using triad fractions data in place of and in addition to composition data is considered for low conversion studies modeled by instantaneous models. Initially triad fractions are utilized in the error in variables model (EVM) and Box Draper Determinant Criterion method, to compare the effectiveness of the two parameter estimation techniques. The error levels and structure are also investigated, to determine the impact that these assumptions can have on the location of the point estimates. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
