Abstract
This Thesis explores architectural issues that pertain to archival collecting practices within Canada. Using the Canadian Coast Guard as a case study it investigates the technology of photography that has documented decades of ice-breaking missions, amassing a paper archive that assumes these images and associated log sheets as determinate facts. How do we create more generously designed archival space, opening up old documents and stories to new consideration? Through this exploration, that focuses on engagement and experiential interventions - it offers both a critique of, and a newfound appreciation for the forgotten archive.
