Learn to assign International Standard Book Number (ISBNs), request more ISBN prefixes, update descriptions, and edit the publisher profile in your account.

You must already have an account to receive ISBNs. If not, apply for an account.

Login to your account

  1. Login to your account with your username and password
  2. Click Login

You will receive a publisher prefix that identifies you as a Canadian publisher, but it is not an ISBN. See Assign an ISBN to a publication to get your 13-digit ISBNs.

Assign an ISBN to a publication

Assign an ISBN to eligible publications in each format (such as hardcover, softcover, e-book, new edition, revised edition, colour version, black-and-white version). Each e-book format (EPUB, MOBI, Kobo and PDF) also requires a separate ISBN.

  1. From the menu select Manage logbook
  2. At the top of the page click Assign new ISBN
  3. Complete the required fields
    • Add any subtitles after the title in the title box
    • Optional: Use the Notes box for additional information (such as number of pages, book dimensions, authors' names)

Request a new ISBN prefix

Publishers may request a new ISBN prefix only when the system indicates there are no more numbers in the previously assigned prefix.

  1. Update your contact information (see Edit publisher profile)
  2. From the menu select Request ISBN prefix
  3. Choose a block size based on anticipated publications
  4. Click Submit query
  5. We will review your request within 3 working days (you may be contacted if we need more information)

Update an item description

  1. From the menu select Manage logbook
  2. Click on the ISBN to be changed
  3. Input or edit the item description
  4. Click Update

Edit publisher profile

  1. From the menu select Profile
  2. Click Edit
  3. On the Edit Publisher page, complete all mandatory fields (marked with an asterisk *)
  4. Click Save
