Slam Poetry with Claudia Lahaie

Join Claudia Lahaie, local author, for a slam poetry workshop. You will have a chance to learn more about being an author and be introduced to slam poetry.
You will then have the unique opportunity to apply what you’ve learned and create your own slam poem inspired by Library and Archives Canada (LAC) collections.
This program is a preview of the hands-on, creative and inclusive programming that will be offered at Ādisōke, the Ottawa Public Library - LAC joint facility set to open in 2026.
This workshop is recommended for ages 12–17.
About Claudia Lahaie
Originally from Quebec City and now living in Ottawa, Claudia Lahaie has spent several years living abroad. Some of the places she has lived include London, Cameroon, and New York City, where she obtained a doctorate in social work from Columbia University. This social worker’s love of different cultures and working with teenagers inspired her book Les voies du slam, published by Éditions David. This first novel won the 2024 Prix Champlain (youth category), and it was nominated for the Association des auteures et auteurs de l'Ontario français (AAOF) Youth Literature Award, the Ottawa Book Awards (French fiction category) and the Prix littéraires des enseignant·e·s de français (novel, age 13 and up).
