Book launch - Norman Ravvin: Who Gets In: An Immigration Story
Library and Archives Canada (LAC), in collaboration with University of Regina Press, invite you to the launch of Who Gets In: An Immigration Story by Norman Ravvin, award-winning author of The Girl Who Stole Everything, Hidden Canada: An Intimate Travelogue, and A House of Words: Jewish Writing, Identity, and Memory. Born in Calgary, he now lives in Montréal.
Who Gets In is an eye-opening account of the Jewish immigration experience in the 1930s, and one man’s battle against anti-Semitic immigration policies. Born from years of archival research, Who Gets In is Norman Ravvin’s deeply personal family memoir, which tells the story of his grandfather’s resolute struggle against xenophobic and anti-Semitic government policies.
Ravvin also addresses Canada’s founding history as it relates to the settlement of the West, Indigenous communities, and newcomers to this country, while exploring our perception of Canada as a nation founded on tolerance and multiculturalism.
Don't miss the chance to hear Norman Ravvin discuss his book, as well as the discoveries he made while doing research at LAC.
