Library and Archives Canada extends consultation room hours in Ottawa
June 6, 2023 – Gatineau, Quebec – Library and Archives Canada
Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is delighted to share with users the addition of new opening hours for its textual and microform consultation rooms at 395 Wellington Street in Ottawa.
As of June 6, users will be able to access these rooms until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturdays. (The Reference and Genealogy Rooms will also be open, but without service.) This initiative supports LAC's vision of putting users at the heart of its services and providing greater public access to Canada's documentary heritage.
LAC's collections include more than 250 linear kilometres of textual documents, over 20 million published books, 30 million photographs, 425,000 works of art, and much more!
To make the most of their visit during these new hours, users will need to pre-order archival documents and published material using our online ordering system. Users wishing to receive personalized assistance in genealogy and reference, or to access the restricted room, special collections and DigiLab, will need to visit LAC during daytime hours.
LAC also offers online services (such as Collection Search) and assists users in its branch offices in Halifax, Winnipeg, and Vancouver.
LAC offers a wide range of services and resources to the public, publishers, libraries, archives and museums. Visit our Services webpage to find out what's available to you.
