Update on the Office of the Information Commissioner's ATIP investigation
On April 26, 2022, the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada published the findings of its investigation into Library and Archives Canada’s (LAC’s) difficulties meeting the deadlines set out in the Access to Information Act. Ten recommendations were put forward which, if implemented, would result in improvements to LAC’s access to information program and align with LAC’s core mandate.
Since then, LAC’s ATIP Branch has been addressing the issues highlighted in the reports, as well as leading the review and implementation of changes to ATIP procedures at LAC.
The ATIP Branch has developed an Action Plan with clear milestones, and reports regularly on the progress achieved as the institution strives to meet its responsibilities under the Access to Information Act.
